The Centre was awarded the Macmillan Quality Environment Mark in May 2012 and it has just been awarded again in 2015.
To receive the award, environments have to score highly in areas such as use of space, comfort and atmosphere, personal and social interaction and health and well-being. Charis scored highly in each category and overall achieved the highest, a Level 5 (Excellent), rating.
The main findings of the report reflect the standard of facilities that Charis has to offer;
Charis is a purpose built house situated in a beautiful location overlooking the shores of Lough Fea. The house was donated to the community and is being utilised as a day service
providing support and complementary therapies to those affected by cancer across the whole of Northern Ireland. The staff and volunteers’ dedication to providing the highest
quality care to people affected by cancer was evident at the assessment. It is clear the centre prides itself on providing high quality, professional services in a holistic and
caring environment.
The facility is decorated to an extremely high standard and the fixtures and fittings, which have been chosen by the people who use the facility, gives the centre a spacious, relaxing
and homely feeling.
Feedback from people at Charis on the day of the assessment was extremely positive, they clearly found the facilities offered to be of significant benefit. This feeling of positivity
radiated throughout the facility.
Everyone’s needs within Charis appear to have been anticipated and staff work extremely hard to ensure all expectations and needs are met. The centre is to be congratulated on achieving the Macmillan Quality Environment Mark and the high scores reflect the high quality environment that has been achieved
