Charis has been like a lifeline to my wife and I since I was diagnosed with cancer.
On our first visit we really didn’t know what to expect but when we arrived, we felt so welcome. On that first visit it was like a winter wonderland, so serene arriving at Charis, nestled up on the hill, surrounded by glistening white snow. We have been blessed to be able to escape to a haven of peace and calm in such a beautiful setting.
From that first visit, right throughout all our visits, Imelda and the staff have been so helpful and caring, it is clear they are passionate about what they do. It is very professionally managed and yet homely and inviting at the same time. From the moment you walk in you are made to feel special and cared for.
At a time when most of our trips were to hospital, it was great to be able to escape to Charis. The staff and volunteers know what you are going through and the thoughts that may be running through your head. We both benefited from the aromatherapy massage and I also went to the relaxation classes.
My wife found it helpful to talk to her therapist whilst having her treatment, often getting little tips to help her cope with my illness and the effect treatment could have on our family. She left feeling much more relaxed and positive. Even just talking through the day to day routine of her journey through my cancer treatment helped her and reassured her that we were coping well.
Our faith in God carried us through and we never gave up hope. Our trips to Charis were occasions we looked forward to, some of the moments of joy in the midst of hard times.
We want to thank everyone at Charis who have helped us on our journey with cancer and wish them every success in the future as they bring their special care and attention to others.
