As we wrap up our Men’s Mental Health Week awareness campaign, today we’re featuring Darren, one of our counsellors. Darren offers advice, support, and a listening ear to clients who come through our doors. His message is simple: reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
“Living with cancer can affect emotional wellbeing, identity, relationships, work and family life. Men facing cancer can feel under pressure to stay strong and push worries aside, avoid talking and sharing how they really are feeling. Fear is common with a cancer diagnosis, and it is not a sign of weakness, sharing these feeling in counselling can help.
Talking with a counsellor is about having support at this difficult time and sessions can provide practical coping strategies, emotional support and the safety to speak openly without judgement. If you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, angry, disconnected or worried about your future, Charis Cancer Care can offer support at this difficult time in your life offering complete confidentiality throughout.
Whether someone is newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment, living with long term effects, or supporting a loved one with cancer, counselling can help men feel heard, understood and more equipped to manage the challenges they are facing.”
Please remember support is available. If you or someone you know is struggling, please get in touch with us at chariscancercare.org or call 028 8676 9217. We are here to help.
